The Art of Changing Your Mind

I don't know if you are a Fr. Mike Schmitz Sunday homily groupie like I am, but I invite you to listen in to the topic from this past Sunday. This. is. it.  This is what Catholic Coaching LLC is all about.

Healing the heart by transforming the mind.

It's the slogan of this coaching practice, you see it on the home page, and it's always the goal of each session. To facilitate the process of Metanoia.

Start listening at the 5min and 55sec and he takes you through the entire 'why' behind why this work is worth doing!

Metanoia. To change your mind. Be it through breaking agreements, re-framing a perception, adopting a new thought, honoring a memory, challenging your current narrative, or simply being loved in the struggle to love, we often need to examine our thinking and experience a change of mind.

"Why?!" Some people might ask. "Why does this matter so much.?! Aren't we giving too much attention to our pain? Wouldn't it be better to just move on?"

Yes, yes it would. But if you can't, it's because something needs to be healed not buried.

I will emphasize that again, one is not healed, simply because one has chosen not to think about something anymore or has shoved that pain into the unconscious terrain of their psyche where it still causes waves and upset and can do so undetected.

We have the obligation to do the work of healing our hearts so that we can then love from a healed heart. A WHOLE heart.

We were made to love and be loved. A broken heart can only love so much because it's weighed down by the burdens of buried hurts and aching wounds. It takes a lot of energy to keep things down and to constantly be tending to injury. Additionally these wounded parts of our hearts also become inaccessible to loving and being loved, and that is the goal of the Christian life!

I talked about in last week's email that the goal of this interior work is ultimately to be able to fulfill the greatest 2 commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength...and to love you neighbor as yourself.

A healed heart is free to do just that! It can be a full conduit of grace, and we were all made to be living expressions of an outpouring of God's abundant love.
