Pain Points

Updated: Dec 19, 2022

I wrote about this topic in a little more detail on my personal blog, Grateful Blessed Mess, but I wanted to bring it up here as well because it colors how I coach.

I believe that anything that causes us pain can go back to any one of five root causes. These root causes I define as the Five Fundamental Pillars of human existence. Five core, foundational pillars that must be rock solid within the inner knowing of a person for them to function well in daily life and be able to be in relationship with others successfully. These five things are as follows:

  1. The Right to Exist

  2. To Know that I am the one in charge of my life and Not a victim of circumstance.

  3. That I have a Unique Mission in this life that only I can fulfill in my own particular way.

  4. That I was made to be Happy and that this happiness is meant to start on this side of Heaven.

  5. That I am Worthy of Love and that worthiness is established by a foundation of knowing that:

  • I am Good

  • I Matter

  • I am Enough

Any action we take that does not have God’s fingerprints on it, any consistent vice we have or habit we can’t shake, I argue, comes from a wound, an injury in any one or all of these Five Pillars. When we sin, Christ doesn’t look at the sin, He feels compassion for the wound. As your coach, I help you identify your habits so you can know your wounds and bring them to Christ for redemption.

Stay posted as we dive into each of the Five Pillars in the coming weeks!
